History of Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center (POIC)

• 1967- Portland OIC, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization was established as part of an international network of more than 50 community-based centers. Portland OIC focused on training undereducated and unemployed adults.

• 1983- Recognizing that intervention was needed at an earlier age and responding to demands for quality alternative education, Portland OIC shifted its focus to High School aged youth age by establishing Portland OIC High School, a private non-tuition school accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. Portland OIC was now providing education, employment training and job placement services to at-risk youth.

• 1997- Portland OIC High School was renamed Rosemary Anderson High School (RAHS) in honor of Mrs. Rosemary Anderson’s commitment to helping at-risk youth and her vision which lead to the expansion of services. RAHS is now recognized as one of the top five alternative high school programs in Oregon and was awarded accreditation with merit by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. Portland OIC now provides education, employment training and job placement services, mentoring, and support through age 25.
